About the Lab

The Computational Soil Science (CSS) is an Independent research group based in Dramaga, Bogor. CSS is dedicated to advancing our understanding of soil systems through cutting-edge computational methods, machine learning, and spatial data analysis.

We integrate field measurements, laboratory data, and remote sensing to build predictive models that help address global challenges in food security, carbon cycling, environment and land management.

Get in Touch

Lead researchers advance groundwater modeling and emission estimation for IMPLI, KLH-BPLH Project

Our lead researchers, Moh Zulfajrin and Lina Lathifah Nurazizah, are currently involved in the Integrated Management of Peatland Landscapes in Indonesia (IMPLI) Project under the Indonesian Ministry of Environment (KLH-BPLH). Their work focuses on applying peatland science, environmental modelling, and remote sensing approaches to support the prediction of spatiotemporal groundwater level dynamics and CO2 emission estimates across 14 Peat Hydrological Units (KHGs) in Sumatra and Kalimantan.

Welcoming Indra Mukti Prasetyo — Next-generation researcher

We are delighted to welcome Indra Mukti Prasetyo as a next-generation researcher in our group. Indra is an undergraduate student in the Department of Soil Science and Land Resources, IPB University, and is currently conducting research on CO₂ fluxes and soil chemistry distribution in mineral soils under various land-use types. Working under the supervision of Dr. Heru Bagus Pulunggono, his research supports ongoing efforts to advance our understanding of soil biogeochemistry and ecosystem functioning in tropical environments.

2025

Presented peatland CO₂ research at AsiaFlux 2025

As part of IPB Consulting - KLH-IMPLI Teams, our work on groundwater-driven CO₂ dynamics in Indonesian tropical peatlands was presented in Riau, Indonesia.

2025

Presented evapotranspiration modeling work at AMLDS Tokyo

We assisted IPB University Team to present Machine-learning-based ET estimation from eddy covariance and remote sensing data in Tokyo, Japan.
